What is Freemasonry
If it were 1880 you would learn that it is "a peculiar system of morality, veiled in allegory....", but in reality Freemasonry is about looking after one another and generally doing the right thing by your fellow man. Just as your family may have traditions, so does our Masonic family, the difference being that ours have remained the same for hundreds of years. These masonic traditions are thought to have their origins among the unbonded or 'free' stonemasons of medieval Europe who were required to have their knowledge of tools and geometry tested prior to being employed on a building site.
When the demand for these skilled 'operative masons' became less in the mid-1700's, the workers' co-operatives or guilds 'accepted' non-masons in order to ensure that the systems that they had developed for teaching morality, honesty and virtue were not lost. Modern lodges therefore are made up of Free and Accepted masons.

I am acutely aware that the fact that you are browsing our website, and provided you are not already associated with English Freemasonry, then you are a potential member of our Lodge. Freemasonry is all about traditional aspects of early stone-masonry in England and we as Masons enjoy the company of like-minded men just as our forefathers have for over 300 years. Sure we have "secrets" but these again are simply traditions that have been practiced for hundreds of years by Lodge members. We are community aware and will often consider contributing to a good cause or local charity. At Aorangi, our meetings are always followed by a meal and drinks, and our wives and partners regularly join us for social events. As you will imagine though, it is tough attracting members these days as everyone leads such busy lives. Perhaps you know of family members that were Freemasons - maybe you have emigrated from the UK and fancy having a connection with England. Either way, get in touch. It may be the best thing you do this year.

Secretary's Notes
February 2019 - Summer BBQ
Our Junior Warden, Bro. Jesse Faraon, arranged with Stonehenge Aotearoa in the Wairarapa and W.Bro. Richard Hall of Wellington Lodge to hold our annual Lodge BBQ in their grounds last Summer. We had a most enjoyable day and the food was terrific. Many thanks to the ladies for their hard work, and to Bro. Ash Vincent for loaning us the Weber BBQ equipment for the day.
Visiting Lecturer
W.Bro. Richard Hall and his wife will be visiting Aorangi Lodge in August to give another of his fine astronomical lectures.
Installation Meeting - November![]()
W.Bro. Tony Gittus has completed his year as WM of Aorangi Lodge No. 2300 E.C. and has been succeeded by W.Bro. Taz Webster for 2018-19. Please ensure that our Installation meeting on the first Saturday in November is in your Masonic calendar each year.
Lodge Dues
The Lodge financial year commences on 1 April 2019. Brethren are requested to pay their dues by one of the methods suggested in the Summons on or before that date.
It should be noted that our annual invoice for Grand and District Grand Lodge dues is often over $4,000.00 each year. To keep the cash-flow going we need to have all subs paid as soon as possible after the due date. You will receive an invoice for your subscription fees by email. Our bye-laws require members to be financially current to avoid friendly exclusion. It's a process not a punishment and you are free to return at any time once outstanding dues are paid.
