On Saturday 13 February W Bro. David Fox and his wife Virginia hosted the Brethren of Aorangi Lodge and their families for the annual Summer BBQ. It was held in the garden of their fine residence in Lowry Bay, Eastbourne. We couldn't have asked for better weather which of course put pressure on the bar.

The food was cooked to perfection and special mention must be made of the beef steak morsels that were piled high on the table. The bagels were also a treat for many of us. Early in the evening the WM rose and thanked our hosts warmly for their hospitality. Many of those present will agree that this was Aorangi Lodge 2300 EC at its finest. Summer BBQ

This was something a little different. Our Junior Warden, W.Bro. Andrew Vincent, hired St Peter's Hall in Paekakariki for the afternoon of Saturday 11 February and cooked a delicious BBQ meal for 51 people. The weather was most kind to us and everyone had a great time in this lovely seaside suburb.

A few people took the opportunity to go for a seaside walk and got some sand between their toes, while others kicked back and enjoyed the atmosphere. A few Brethren arrived by train so that they didn't have to worry about the drive home after a few drinks.

Several people have commented that they will drop into Paekakariki next time they are heading north as it is not usually a place that they would think of stopping. The cafe's are great and Finns Hotel is a popular watering hole for people walking the new escarpment track.

Ladies Evening

Held on Saturday 2 September, the annual Ladies Evening was attended by 18 Brethren, their partners, and of course a few special Lodge guests. The buffet food at the James Cook Chancellor Hotel is always 1st class (especially the salmon) and we all went home well satiated. The restaurant was very busy but as we had a private room to ourselves we were free to move around and mingle.

It was especially pleasing to welcome our prospective member Mr Stuart Bain who we hope will enjoy the future company of the Aorangi Lodge members. He is to be initiated at our October meeting.
